PROJECT COORDINATOR
No Sew Fleece Blanket Making Event
for our
Did you know that the project that sparked the idea for KindCraft came from Pinterest? The co-founders of KindCraft were looking for a hands on service project they could do with their young children to teach them the importance of empathy. A simple "pin" on Pinterest related to making no sew fleece blankets that don't have to be sewed led to a gathering of some friends at Sunnyside Elementary school to make blankets for Children’s Mercy hospital! Local families showed a lot of interest in wanting to teach their kids to be compassionate and so the co-founders looked for another service project (hygiene kits for Mission Southside)-and the rest, as they say, is history!
2020 will be our SIXTH annual No Sew Fleece Blanket Making Event. Due to covid, however, we will not be meeting in a large group to make blankets as a KindCraft family. But that is not going to stop us from spreading kindness and teaching our children to give back.
Sooo, we are recruiting Project Coordinators! A Project Coordinator for the blanket event means that you gather a group of people to make blankets. You might lead a group of 10 or 200-the size of your group does not matter! What does matter is that you will be leading a group of people on a fun, hands on project-with very little skill required . The best news? KindCraft will provide you what you need and help you every step of the way! We will provide you with written directions that you can share with your group. We will provide you with a list of possible organizations that you can donate to. We will provide you with tags to personalize your blankets. We will provide you with square templates that will help you cut out the four corners of your blankets. Here is a bit more about YOUR role.
Prior to the project your role will be to:
-
Talk to your friends, co-workers, neighbors, scout leaders, etc and ask if they would like to do this service project with you. Recruit volunteers and build excitement!
-
Choose an organization that you would like to bless with blankets. We will provide you with a list of local suggestions for organizations that might need blankets (sorted by category).
-
Contact the organization you are interested in donating to and gather all necessary information from the organization. This would be a GREAT thing to have older kids do to get involved as much as possible with the project. (KindCraft will provide a list of questions you should ask when contacting the organization.)
-
Attend a virtual meeting (Zoom) with Courtney Smith for training as a Project Coordinator (15-20 minutes MAX!)
-
Pick up directions, KindCraft blanket tags, and square templates from KindCraft (South Olathe)
-
Depending on the size of your group, you may need to make additional square templates for your group. We have a limited quantity pre-cut for you.
During the project your role will be to:
-
Discuss the organization you chose with your group. Provide information about the organization, why you chose it, why you want to bless them, etc-we are happy to help with this!
- Communicate to participants that they will need to purchase their own fleece and have their own fabric scissors.
-
Either make the blankets together with your group or provide instructions for families who would like to make them on their own but contribute to your group’s donation.
-
Answer questions about the project from your group (we are here for you if you get stuck!)
-
Take pictures and videos of your group making blankets (or if you are socially distancing, ask them to send you pictures and you can forward them to KindCraft)
After the project is done your role will be to:
-
Deliver blankets to the organization you chose by December 15, 2020.
-
Share pictures/videos of both the process and the drop off to share with KindCraft.
-
Optional: write a brief summary of your project to be used on the KindCraft blog
There will be no limit to the number of Project Coordinators we serve, we just hope to bless a variety of organizations.
Applications are due by October 15, 2020.
We will have a Project Coordinator packet for you to pick up by the end of October.
We recommend that you plan to do this project during the month of November/early December.
