What is gleaning, you ask? Great question!

What is gleaning, you ask? Great question!

Gleaning is harvesting excess produce from farms and orchards that would otherwise go to waste and delivering it to food banks (like Harvesters) and pantries to feed hungry people in the local Kansas City area.

31 KindCrafters gathered at Cedar Hill Orchard and collected over 700 lbs of apples and delivered them to local food pantries. There was a storm the night before that knocked a lot of the apples off the tree. The apples that are on the ground usually just go to waste but through gleaning, the apples that aren't bruised, mushy, or have holes in them get picked up and delivered to food pantries where they are distributed to hungry people in the local Kansas City area. After the Harvest was a great organization to work with and we can't wait to have another gleaning opportunity!
